Vargas: “The most difficult part of the ending is beginning again”
QUEZON City Rep. Alfred Vargas appealed to Filipinos to support the government in rebuilding Marawi City and show compassion to the Muslim brothers as they start a new life from a traumatic experience.
Vargas made the appeal following the declaration of President Rodrigo Duterte to Marawi as “liberated” city.
“The most difficult part of the ending is beginning again,” Vargas said, as he expressed full backing to the plan of the administration to provide budget amounting to billions for the immediate rehabilitation of the said city.
Vargas urged the Filipinos to be more vigilant this time to ensure the protection of peace and order in their respective places and to prevent the terrorists from their sinister acts.
“Let this Marawi experience teach us all to endure as aation, and not to take our peace and freedom for granted. Let us be vigilant and steadfast in protecting these,” Vargas said.
Initially, the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) approved the release of P5 billion for this year and has proposed a P10 billion rehabilitation fund for 2018 which Congress is fully supporting.
The said funds will be under the the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (NDRRM).
“Together let us work together to rebuild Marawi City and help our Muslim brothers and sisters in finding strength and courage to rise again as a dignified Filipinos. May God Bless the Republic of the Philippines,” the solon added.
Meanwhile, Vargas has commended the brave and gallant efforts of the soldiers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), which led to the killing of the terrorist leaders Isnilon Hapilon and Omar Maute.
Vargas said the soldiers deserve praises for risking and sacrificing their lives to regain Marawi City from the hands of the notorious Maute Group.
