FOLLOWING the success of the Philippine Team in the recently-concluded ASIAN Games, Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas filed a House Resolution recognizing the exemplary performance of our Filipino athletes.
In filing House Resolution 2127 entitled “Resolution Congratulating and Commending the Philippine Team for Their All-Out Performance and Dedication in the recently concluded 18th ASIAN Games held in Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, Finishing as 19th Best out of the 45 Nations that Competed”, Rep. Vargas joined the Filipino community in commending the Philippine Team for bringing home 21 victories — four gold, two silver, and 15 bronze medals.
Rep. Vargas, a member of the House Committee on Youth and Sports Development, lauded the Filipino athletes for not just taking a single leap but a series of determined steps to bring pride and honor to the country.
“I congratulate our athletes for their impressive showing of their dedication to their respective sports,” Rep. Vargas said.
The Philippine Team landed in the 19th place among the 45 participating nations through the gold medals in weightlifting (Hidilyn Diaz), golf (Philippine Golf Team member Yuka Saso), and skateboarding (Margielyn Didal).
The country is one of the few nations who pioneered the first Asian Games in New Delhi, India, in 1951, and has since then consistently participated in this quadrennial meet. For the 2018 Asian Games, the Philippines sent 335 strong and determined athletes and officials to compete in Palembang and Jakarta, Indonesia from August 18 to September 2.
“Throughout the 15 day-competition, our athletes represented our nation by displaying their fiery forms and braving their competitors in 31 sports events,” Rep. Vargas noted.
Rep. Vargas expressed elation over the improvement of this fete from 15 medals (1 Gold, 3 Silver, and 11 Bronze) and 22nd overall rank during the 2014 Asian Games held in Incheon, South Korea.
